Capo Caccia
The extraordinary marine protected area Capo Caccia Isola Piana, which includes the bay of Porto Conte from Punta Giglio to Capo Caccia, is a priceless natural heritage, home to the Porto Conte natural park. Here you can visit naturalistic and archaeological sites with trekking and speleological itineraries, it’s wonderful landscape used as a scenery for many films, aerial and submerged caves, rare forms of life such as coral and endemic species of flora. Among them the Prigionette, also known as “Noah’s Ark”, one of the richest places within the Porto Conte Reserve in terms of its organic biodiversity, home to white donkeys, Giara horses and deer’s and – only accompanied by professional speleologist - the Green Grotto, where human fossils, ceramics, and graffiti from seven thousand years ago have been found. The paths of the reserve area climb up to scenic places such as Cala della Barca, which name derive from a French vessel sunk here in 1664. This area is ideal for bird watching rocky edges 300 meters above the sea, populated by birds such as the griffon vulture and the peregrine falcon at Punta Cristallo.
Diving enthusiasts will be spoiled by the many dives spots ideal for divers of all levels, among gullies, spiers and Posidonia meadows, populated by fish, molluscs, and crustaceans. The submerged cave of Nereo is the largest in Europe: entering at a depth of 32 meters to then ending from another opening at 15, after a path of 350 meters between galleries and chambers. Then the Giglio, Pozzo, Falco caves and the blue tunnel, which crosses the promontory between Cala della Barca and Cala Puntetta, allowing passage at low depths from one side to the other. You will explore a mysterious and fascinating world, where you can discover life forms, such as the red coral, which became the symbol of Alghero’s coastline, also known as the Coral Riviera.

The Neptune Caves
The emerged part of the Neptune caves can be reached through to the Escala del Cabiròl which overlooks the limestone wall with a path of 654 steps, or by boat with shuttle services from the city port and from Cala Dragunara, along Capo Galera. and the island of Foradada. The inside of the cave can be visited for almost 600 meters, with the most suggestive environments with spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations and an underground lake. In the park of Porto Conte you can visit the most significant monuments of the ancient Sardinia, Nuragic complexes of Palmavera, the Roman remains of the villa of Sant'Imbenia, the Museum of Prison Memory at the former agricultural penal colony of Tramariglio and the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Museum, inside of an Aragonese Tower, dated back to 1572.
